Focus on self-love and empowerment. These classes are peer-led, fostering trust and reducing feelings of isolation. Using the craft of candle-making and its metaphors to explore, expand and heal.
We offer a mobile service and can bring the workshop to a location of your choice. NDIS-funded 1:1, group sessions, activities funded through grants and community partnerships and private bookings available too.
Safe Glow
Safe Glow is a six session, women’s-only workshop designed for up to six participants, providing an intimate setting for connection and healing. Safe Glow is offered when partnered with community centres, organisations and businesses. It is intended to be free to participants, with the booking organisation covering the cost. The 6-session holistic program is delivered directly to community centres and support organisations that assist women facing:
- Mental health struggles
- Psychosocial disabilities
- Trauma
This outreach model ensures the workshop reaches the target audience where they are already seeking support, maximising accessibility and minimising barriers.
The core methodology is built on the peer worker model. The peer facilitator creates an intentional environment by:
- Eliminating hierarchy: ensuring there is no power imbalance, which is critical for participants healing from trauma and mental health challenges.
- Fostering safety: the shared experience of the peer leader validates participant experiences and cultivates a safe, non-judgemental space.
- Utilising hands-on skill: the candle-making craft provides a focused, grounding activity that aids in emotional regulation and builds tangible self-efficacy over the six sessions.
Safe Glow is offered on Fridays over 6 sessions monthly. This structure prioritises flexibility for women managing significant psychosocial disabilities and/or trauma recovery, allowing ample time for reflection, integration, and capacity building between sessions.
Flicker & Flow
Flicker & Flow is a 4-session beginner course focused on capacity building and connection. This workshop is designed primarily for NDIS participants and people with a disability in the Illawarra area. It’s more than just a craft class, it’s a safe, inclusive, and empowering space to learn, connect, and grow, while building capacity.
Beacon of Hope Project intentionally uses peer workers to facilitate these sessions because it creates an immediate sense of belonging and hope. When the facilitator shares a similar lived experience, they become a positive role model, offering tangible inspiration for the participants’ mental health and healing journeys.
Crucially, the peer-led model eliminates the traditional hierarchy between the facilitator and the participants, ensuring the space is entirely free of judgement for mutual growth and strength. Our unique approach is peer-led, holistic, and trauma-informed, ensuring a supportive environment that maximises learning and well-being.
The workshop is offered over 4 sessions, and we offer flexibility for location and will travel to you. Sessions can be hosted at:
- Your own home (for individual or small group sessions)
- Local community centres
- Schools
- Hired venues (the participant or hosting group is responsible for the cost of hiring a private venue)
The program offers a range of scheduling options to balance the need for continuity (to build skill and connection) with the need for flexibility (to manage disability and life commitments):
- Weekly (e.g. every Tuesday for 4 weeks): maximises momentum for skill-building and quickly establishing peer connection and support.
- Bi-weekly or monthly (e.g. one session every month, up to 4 months): prioritises flexibility for participants managing significant psychosocial disabilities and/or trauma recovery, allowing ample time for reflection, integration, and capacity building between sessions.
The Flicker & Flow workshop operates on a fee-for-service model, making it easily accessible for NDIS participants:
- Price: $55 per session per participant.
- Total workshop cost: $220 for the whole workshop (4 sessions).
- Payment: participants with adequate and relevant funding may use their NDIS plan; they must be plan or self managed. Private payments are also welcome and payment plans are available.
- Facilitation: the sessions are hosted by experienced peer workers who deliver the trauma-informed curriculum.
